Biography of APJ Abdul Kalam

 1. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

2.He was born into a poor family. His father had only one boat to support his family.

3. Kalam ji was a hard-working boy right from the beginning. At a tender age of five he started selling newspapers to help his father. He did this job in the evening after his school.

4. Kalam ji completed his graduation from St. Joseph's college Tiruchirapalli in 1954. In 1955, Kalam ji enrolled at Madras Institute of Technology.

5.Since childhood Kalam ji was fascinated by Physics and Mathematics.

6.Kalam ji missed an opportunity to become a pilot in Indian Air force. He was at the nineth place in the list.  And there were only eight openings.  The first eight shortlisted candidates were recruited.

7. In 1960 Kalam involved in DRDO's Aeronautical Development Organization.

8. IN 1969, Kalam was made the project director  of Satellite Launch Vehicles and was shifted to ISRO. The project became successful and under the directorship of  Kalam ji India was able to launch Rohini Satellite Series into Earth's orbit.

9. Kalam was known as Missile man of India due to his continued successful work with ballistic missiles and launch vehicle technology.

10. Kalam also made the significant contribution in India's nuclear power. The Pokhern test in the year 1998 was successful because of Kalam' hard work and technical support.

11. Kalam ji was honoured with many awards including the highest civilian award in the country the Bharat Ratna in 1997. His other awards  include Padam Vibhushan in 1990 and  Padam Bhushan in 1981.

12. He was also honoured with doctorate from 40 universities.

13. Inspired by his life a bollywood movie has also been produced with the title ' I am Kalam'.

14. Kalam ji is a source of inspiration for millions of people in India and in other countries.

15. Kalam became the president of india on  July 25, 2002.

16. He was known as people's president because of his simple and down to earth attitude.

17. He was once asked by a journalist how would he  like to be remembered  by the people as a scientist as a president or as a teacher. And he replied smiling,"  I want to be remembered as a teacher first and then any other person."
